Job Description: Journeyman Substation Electrician

Journeyman Substation Electrician responsible for all assignments, directives, schedules and programs as may be assigned by the Substation Supervisor or Substation Crew Leader.

Perform all phases of substation construction including, but not limited to, reading and understanding schematic diagrams and construction drawings, construction of foundations, erecting structures, installation of busses, switches, breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, capacitors, circuit switchers, AC and DC systems, conduit and cable raceways, grounding systems, pulling and terminating of cable, installation of control metering and relay panels, etc.

Journeyman Substation Electrician perform all phases of substation maintenance work which include adjustment of switches, checking electrical connections, checking grounds, sampling and testing of oil, filtering of oil, service and inspect equipment, update substation logs and equipment records, maintenance of substation yard, fence, gates, signs, communication and security systems, trouble shooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, pneudraulic and stored energy systems, security systems, stand-by generators, reading and understanding of schematic diagrams, etc, working energized voltages up to 25 kV.

Gather information for recording of all electrical equipment serviced, repaired, tested, painted, TTR tested, meggar tested, dielectric tested, change of dielectric fluid, loss evaluated, etc.
Journeyman Substation Electrician perform monthly inspections and gather all necessary data for generation of reports and updating records. Make repairs and corrections on any abnormal findings.

Perform switching on equipment at all voltages as directed by the System Operator or Supervisors in accordance with established FKEC practices.
Journeyman Substation Electrician responsible for the performance of assigned work in accordance with FKEC's standards and procedures.

Ensure safety rules and requirements are followed in accordance with the FKEC safety manual and acceptable utility standards.

Comply with all state and local traffic laws.

Journeyman Substation Electrician Knowledgeable of and perform in accordance with all state and federal regulations concerning the handling, batching, testing, storage, clean-up and disposal of any PCB or PCB contaminated dielectric fluids used.
