Job Description

Job Title: Line worker 1st Class
Department: Operations
Reports To: Distribution Superintendent
Union Status: IBEW
Salary: per contract

SUMMARY The employee in this position works in conjunction with other line personnel on company's overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of a 1st Class Lineworker, A - include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

-Responsibility for the safe installation, maintenance and removal of overhead and underground lines, equipment and apparatus.

-Install, maintain and trouble shoot transformer banks with various primary and secondary voltages.

-Perform switching and tagging according to company procedure.

-Respond to and repair various overhead and underground transmission and distribution system disturbances.

-Assist in the training of Apprentice Lineworkers. (Line Technicians)

-Climb poles and operate bucket trucks and aerial lift equipment.


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of a 1st Class Lineworker, A:

-Inspect contract installations upon request.

-Conduct switching and tagging operations on companion electrical systems.

-Periodically locate underground lines using appropriate equipment.

-Review, comprehend, and comply with company safety standards.

-Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, a 1st Class Lineworker, A; must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or equivalent, plus five years experience as an electric utility line worker are required. Must have satisfactorily completed an approved Lineworkers training program. Must be proficient in the use of hot line tools and underground locating equipment. Must possess a working knowledge of company standards and the National Electric Safety code.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
First Aid and CPR certification required. Must possess a Commercial Driver's License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Consistent pushing, pulling, and lifting in up to 60 pounds (up to 35% of body weight) is required. The wearing of safety equipment is required. The handling of high voltages and currents is required.
