Journeyman Lineman
Journeyman Lineman Education:
Must be high school graduate or equivalent.
Journeyman Lineman Training And Experience:
One year Groundman experience, and four years Apprentice Lineman/Apprentice
Lineman 1st Class experience. Completion of the FKEC Apprentice
Training academic course or four years equivalent training
in an approved Apprentice program. Must have or be able to
obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Must be FKEC certified
for working in or out of the bucket.
Job Description : Journeyman Lineman
1. Install, maintain, move or remove transformers, security
lights, secondaries, service drops, poles, conductors, capacitors,
regulators, OCRs, or any other line equipment.
2. Perform work from a bucket at various heights, in addition
to climbing poles.
3. Perform "hotline" work on all lines and voltages
of the Cooperative, following prescribed methods and procedures.
4. Must be certified for working in or out of the bucket.
5. Locate and repair trouble on overhead and underground distribution
and transmission lines and equipment, making them safe against
possible damage to life or property pending permanent repair.
6. Ensure jobs are done as quickly and safely as possible.
7. Run services, set, remove, connect and disconnect meters.
8. Must be knowledgeable of underground locations of septic
tanks, water lines, etc., when setting up to perform work.
9. Responsible for the performance of assigned work in accordance
standards and procedures.
10. Prepare necessary reports and records in connection with
such work.
11. Direct and instruct First Class and Apprentice Linemen
and Groundman as required.
12. Ensure public and crew safety at all times.
13. Ensure safety rules and requirements are followed.
14. Must be knowledgeable of operating various machinery and
equipment required to perform job duties.
15. Perform "on call" duty assignments 24 hours
a day when on call, as required.
16. Trim back trees/shrubs when necessary to perform required
maintenance.
17. Read meters, make collections and investigate consumer
complaints.
18. Perform maintenance on water crossings when required.
19. Operate fault finding equipment for underground lines.
20. Pull cables, splice and make cable connections.
21. Must be knowledgeable of and understand REA Specifications.
22. Make tests on cables of any voltage and installs cables,
potheads, transformers, network protectors and overhead and
underground electrical equipment, manholes, vaults and ducts.
23. Responsible for notifying warehouse of materials used
or retired.
