Lineman
Job Description
Lineman perform, with various degrees of supervision (depending
on experience) numerous routine and specialized duties involving
pole climbing construction and maintenance operations on the
Cooperative's transmission and distribution systems, including
but not limited to construction, installation, and/or removal
of and maintenance of electrical apparatus, troubleshooting,
on energized and non-energized (depending on experience) overhead
and underground electric lines, in accordance with RUS Bulletin
1728F 806 and 803 specifications and written safety rules.
Operate personal computer, calculator, and two-way radio.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Must obtain
or have basic knowledge and understand the electric cooperative
concept and its history, safety rules and regulations, Cooperative
Policy Handbook, computer system and programs and how to efficiently
apply to necessary tasks. Must have a valid Texas driver's
license and a Class A commercial license.
Lineman must be able to effectively communicate with fellow
employees and members/owners and to express oneself orally
and in writing, in English, with tact and diplomacy. Must
be a self-starter, be able to perform duties with little or
no supervision and have the ability to follow instructions
well.
Lineman must be able to read and understand Cooperative system
maps, work orders, staking sheets, NESC and other specifications.
Perform all types of troubleshooting, construction, installation
and/or removal of single phase and polyphase transformers,
service drops, oil circuit breakers, poles, conductors, capacitors,
regulators and other line equipment.
Lineman perform with proficiency, the use of all required
materials, tools, and equipment. Keep informed of modern up-to-date
methods in order to correctly perform first aid procedures,
including artificial resuscitation. Perform "on-call"
and "after hour" duty assignments when scheduled
or as required.
Lineman must be able to carry out a variety of activities
that require a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Must be able to sit, walk, stand for long periods of time
and work out of bucket trucks, climb ladders and poles, and
perform work in elevated and reaching positions.
